Christmas in June

Almost every day is filled with some sort of new surprise for Keaton.  New snacks we find at the store, a potty toilet he is finally ready to play with, getting out bigger clothes from the boxes and boxes we have, or even just bringing out toys that we stored away for awhile.  But a few days ago was kind of like Christmas in June for Keaton.  He got a wagon from Grandpa Morgan, which he really enjoys riding around in.  And a package came from Grandma and Grandpa Tarr.  Getting fun mail is really exciting now a days since it's usually just bills!  Keaton was really excited to get two of his favorite things: Trains and books.  He was very quick to figure out how the trains worked (pushing on them gets them moving).  And this guy LOVES books.  You will usually find him reading them upside down...but he's talking away so I guess he's just advanced and has learned to read "upside down" before "right side up."  It was an exciting day for Keaton!

Here's that toilet I mentioned....good for climbing on...

And the wagon...good for riding in...

Books and trains....good for keeping him entertained for days...

Just Like Dad

We had a pretty low key Father's Day...well at least Keaton and I did...some how TJ ended up spending hours working on a pot roast instead of relaxing but it turned out delicious.  We had my dad, brother and aunt Claudia over for an early dinner.

Keaton got his daddy a tool set (that was really for Keaton) so he can start helping him around the house with projects.  I think the beeper was the best part...and it sure beeps a lot so he's going to be a busy guy! Keaton also got a big hair cut on Father's day so shirtless Keaton is before the hair cut and shirt on Keaton is after.

Keaton and his dad reading their new book...that was from Keaton...from Grandpa Morgan :)

Daddy teaching Keaton how to use the drums (they were not a Father's Day gift, they just magically appeared one day and I have no idea from where).

Story Time

I never really appreciated public libraries until now.  We live within 5 minutes of 4 libraries and they all have story times (most have multiple ones for different age groups).  It has been a long time since we have gone since we were going to the YMCA during the time they have story time.  But we paused that membership for the summer so we're back at story time.

Today's started out very eventful because Keaton was really excited about the bunny puppet the librarian had and ran up to it, tripped, fell, and ended up with a bloody nose.  So we spent the first 5 minutes in the bathroom until the bleeding stopped.  He bounces back quick so he was ready to play right away.

They do a really good job because they read a book, then do a song with shakers/bean bags/scarves/etc. then back to book/song/book/song.  So it moves fast to keep their attention.  Today she read a book called "Dog in Charge".  I always tell Manny that he is in charge when I go somewhere :).  But I guess that assumes that I'm the in charge to make those calls and I'm not so sure about that....

Annual Furry 5k

The Furry 5k has become an annual event for Manny and I.  I wore a t-shirt today that was from the 2009 event and I think we have done it every year since then.  Every year I say I'm never doing this again because it's total chaos but I didn't say that this year.  I think it's because we now have a child so everything in life is chaos (but Keaton didn't get to come to this because him and the dog would have been too much chaos for me to handle by myself).

Every time we have gone for a walk this past month I told Manny he was training for the Furry 5k. The training paid off because we did 3.1 miles in 34 minutes and that included walking up the giant hill and stopping for water.  If it was up to Manny we would have stopped for water and that would have been the end of it all (as you can see from Manny staring at the water in the top picture at the start).  He took a dip in the lake before the walk and then took a dip in the pool at the dog water station which was meant for drinking, not swimming.

After we finished, we got all the free dog treats, which was A LOT! Manny also got a doggy tattoo, which was something I've never seen.  It was temporary so he won't be stuck with the weird image forever.

This dog loves attention so events like this are perfect for him.  He also loves to sleep and is passed out next to me right now!

Went to Orcas Island and Got a Ceiling Fan!

We went up to Orcas Island for a few days to a great place called West Beach Resort.  It was our first over night trip with both Keaton and Manny and it went very well!  TJ, Manny and I came here a few years ago an had a great time.  The weather wasn't as nice this time but that didn't stop Manny and Keaton from going in the water.

Boston Terrier's are not usually swimmers but Manny sure is (Manny is the tiny dot in the middle of the water in the pictures).

Here's some pictures from our visit in May 2010. As you can see Manny loved the water as much then as he does now.

Keaton was tough enough to brave the cold water.  He was also really good about holding my hand!
The San Juan Islands are pretty famous and are a really beautiful place to visit.  But they are not the easiest place to get to and its pretty remote once you get there.  We had no cell phone coverage, no TV, no email, no Facebook.  There are no stop lights on Orcas Island, only 3 gas stations and no fast food that I saw (or Starbucks).  We spent one night watching some home video's from when I was a baby, which was pretty cool and inspired us to make more video's of Keaton.  Of course this required us to tap into modern technology to watch the video's-we couldn't stay away from it for even one night!  We decided that while Manny loved all the nature (birds, bunnies, deer, cows, sheep, etc.) he is definitely a city dog because nature got him too excited and required us to restrain him every time he saw something interesting.
The captain of the ferry.....and soon to be famous Mr. Keaton.  A writer for the Seattle Times was doing an article on visiting Orcas Island and he took a picture of Keaton for his article.

There was one good thing that came out of the bad weather....we came home earlier than planned so TJ decided to put a ceiling fan in Keaton's room.  He is obsessed with them and just thinks they are the greatest thing ever! He instantly spots them where ever he goes.  Now he wakes up each morning with a big smile on his face because he's looking at his ceiling fan!
